I have seen a film by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and I would like to suggest to you to do the same. Take your time. The name of the film is “Home”, which documents human impact on the environment through breathtaking video. The film is full of stunning aerial shots and itself an amazing film. But the messages are more important.

As I watch Yann Arthus-Bertrand TED video talk about his brand new film also, and I have one important statement is still in my mind.

We do not want to believe what we know.

We do not want to believe that Coral reefs will disappear from the Earth before 2050.
We do not want to believe that we consumed 3 time more oil than we produce.
We do not want to believe that all the glaciers probably will melt in 100 years.
We do not want to ….

“The essential difference between emotion and reason is that emotion leads to action while reason leads to conclusions.” – Donald Calne, author of Within Reason.

I read also somewhere that people whose brains are damaged in their emotional centers are not unable to make decisions and they are unable to choose. Because you make decisions based on what you would like, what you fear would happen if you chose to do another thing instead, what you fear would happen if you don’t do this particular thing in time, or what you desire the outcome to be.

“Emotion and reason are intertwined, but when they are in conflict, emotion wins every time.” Lovemarks: The Future Beyond Brands by Kevin Roberts. We all would like to believe that we make decisions based on ration and facts. But this is not true.

We know also that

“The soft stuff is the hard stuff.” – Rules of Thumb by Alan M. Webber.

The question is: How we can generate this emotion to make a decision to act?

If we believe what we know, what we fear, why we are waiting for? Let’s make a decision in the work and the life. And act upon this.

Invest in people to create better organization, team to create more efficient, more productive teams, companies and countries which will lead to make more sustainable living and financial result.

What is your action?

I read a very interesting post of TomorrowToday’s Blog ( http://www.connectioneconomy.com ) about this topic – “Shouldn’t we all just pick another word?” - read online here.

See my view about Talent definition.
We heard several times that one of the most assets of the companies is their Talents.

• Who they are?
• Where we can find them? – Several recruiters called himself/herself as “Talent Acquisition Manager”.
• Can we develop Talents? – Several recruiters called himself/herself as “Talent Acquisition and Development Manager”.
• Are they really “outside of the norm”? – Are they are” Outliers”?

“Outliers” – based on Malcolm Gladwell – are not successful only because their aptitudes or passions. Outliers’ measurement approach as individual performance measurment is not correct. They are heavily determined by the time and the place when they are grown up and live. The culture affected where and when they were grown up. Their parents, mentors and peers are also heavily influenced them. Just think about – Malcolm Gladwel famous example – Bill Gates.

Do you think Bill Gates will be one of the richest people in the world if

• he was NOT born in Seattle,
• he was NOT in the Lakeside School, an exclusive preparatory school,
• if the Mothers Club was NOT investing 3,000 USD to buy ASR-33 teletype terminal and a block of computer time
• if he did not live just a few bus stop from the school and
• he could NOT start programming in 1968, much more earlier than anybody else.

“Outliers” for me, in the past, was a rigid descriptive statistics term only. Outlier based on Encyclopedia Britannica definitions is: “Sometimes data for a variable will include one or more values that appear unusually large or small and out of place when compared with the other data values. These values are known as outliers and often have been erroneously included in the data set.”

So, “Outliers” are different that the standard population. They are “larger” or “smaller” than the norm.

“Talent” is something different, as especially for me.

First, everybody is talented. Period. But everybody is talented in different things. It means – we are all ‘outside of the norm’ if we would like to find our talent and to be “Talent”.

Second, but it is also true that not everybody can find their talent inside. They never find it or they lost their passion to live with their talent.

Third, there is necessary an opportunity (time, place) when talent can joy his/her potential. If Bill Gates was born in 1945 instead of 1955, he will meet with computers with elder age only.

“Talent” is who found his/her potential and have passion to use this potential effectively in his/her life. Talented people can make most out of their aptitude and knowledge between the given circumstances and ready to provide the maximum performance in the present and the uncertainty future.

Probably, that’s why Talents are the most valuable asset of the companies.

I am so excited to discuss more about this topic. Please comment it.

Thank you.

A few days ago, I started to look around to buy a new digital camera, but before I visit any site or shop I asked Hunch help to find the best camera for me.
Hunch recommendation was a perfect fit what I really want.

Is this a new phenomenon after Google, FaceBook or Twitter?

Hunch was started by clever folks who were exploring how machine learning could be used to guide practical decision-making.

In 10 questions or less, Hunch will offer you a great solution to your problem, concern or dilemma, on hundreds of topics. Hunch’s answers are based on the collective knowledge of the entire Hunch community, narrowed down to people like you, or just enough like you that you might be mistaken for each other in a dark room. Hunch is designed so that every time it’s used, it learns something new. That means Hunch’s hunches are always getting better.

If you interested to get an Invitation to Hunch – I have limited invitations at the moment, please leave a comment. Thank you!

Enjoy Hunch!

Executive Insider, biweekly newsletter of ExecuNet (May 18, 2009) reported some good news for Job Seeker.

One in 10 executive search firms plan to hire additional professional staff over the next three months, as executive search firms’ practices begin to stabilize and plan for future growth after a significant drop in corporate hiring at the executive level in recent months.

ExecuNet’s April survey of 142 executive recruiters found that 9.9 percent indicated their firms will add professional staff in the next three months, up from just 6.7 percent of responding firms with similar hiring plans in March.

Recruiters’ short-term confidence also increased slightly in April, as 18 percent reported being confident or very confident the executive employment market will improve during the next three months — up from 15 percent in March.

War, terrorist attack, pandemic, oil or electricity shortage, weather catastrophe, etc..

No. There is nothing (fortunately).

Only (!) somebody lost his/her Trust and than a few thousands people felt the same.

And this emotion led to action. The result of this actions are well known now.

Trust is set to become a critical success factor (or not The only one) for everything in 2009 and further.

Trust Economy by Leo Burnet

The Trust Economy

Trust is set to become a critical success factor for brands in 2009. Where we place our trust is changing dramatically. In turbulent times we look to organisations that share our concerns, manage anxiety and take the lead. With the trust spectrum up for grabs, organisations that show they are going the extra mile for people will prosper. Supermarkets in particular have positioned themselves as consumer champions for some time and look set to benefit in this new era.

Trust Economy by Chris Brogan

Stop thinking sales. Start thinking relationships.

Return on Influence: the new ROI.

Business is Personal: the blending of social construct.

Attention as currency.

Friends as spokespeople.

It seems to me, no doubt. I love the Crisis. There are some positive things about the Crisis.

- I have no job, but I have time to spend with my wife and my children. They need me and not my money.

- I have no meetings, but I have more chats with my ex-colleagues ever. I can see now their talents and not their positions.

- I have no presentations or reports to read but I have books to read what I always want to read or re-read. Please see my favorite books in “My favorite’ page.

There is a time to stop a little bit to step out of my routine. There is a time now, to rethink my paths and revisit the passions what I lost or what I never dare to pursue.
